DC Assistive Technology Device Loan Program

The DC Assistive Technology Device Loan Program was established for individuals and service providers to borrow assistive technology (AT) devices easily and at no charge.

Borrowing AT devices is beneficial when making a decision on the appropriate AT to purchase (try it before you buy it) or to serve as a loaner during a device repair.

Borrowed devices can also provide an accommodation on a short-term basis or can also be used for training or learning purposes.

Who Can Borrow Devices?

Persons with disabilities, family members, government agencies, teachers or other school representatives, service providers working with persons with disabilities such as occupational, speech and physical therapists and AT specialists.

How Does It Work?

Contact the DCATRC to learn whether the device(s) you require are available.  The number of devices borrowed may be limited based on inventory and prior need.  Schedule an appointment to pick-up the devices.  Staff will assist you in the selection of devices and also provide basic instruction and implementation ideas, if needed.

  • The standard length of a device loan is four weeks.  Please ask about longer terms if needed
  • Borrowers are liable for replacement of any device that is lost, stolen or damaged
  • Borrowers and/or the person responsible for borrowed items must complete and sign the agreement form
  • Borrowers are responsible for pick-up and return of all equipment
