Success Stories

The work of the ATPDC touches many lives.  These are a few of the DC residents who received help through the Assistive Technology Financial Loan Program

The use of assistive technology has "changed my life and expanded my mobility".  Unable to go up and down the stairs in her home, Celestine W. was once limited to her upstairs bedroom.
Through the ATPDC financial loan program, Mrs. W. was able to purchase a stair lift and outdoor ramp.  She is now able to independently go down the stairs to attend church services and go on outings with her daughter.

Carlos P. lives in a typical DC neighborhood, full of rolling hills.  For many years he rolled himself up the steep hills in a manual wheelchair.
Recently, Carlos was able to purchase a brand new scooter with the help of the ATP loan program.  "It has been a godsend and made my life so much easier.  I will recommend the ATPDC to everyone"

"The money from the loan provided the labor to convert the basement into a supportive living space for my nephew."  Theresa F.

Norma T. wanted to learn new skills and accomplish new goals; and she wanted to do it on her own.  With the ATPDC loan she purchased screen reading software and a device to read her medicine bottles.  Norma said it best "ahhh, the independence of it all".
